What People Do For Money

It makes me sick to my stomach hearing all of these new stories about how careless and inconsiderate these big corporations and companies are becoming now a days.  I was just reading about how, in our global issues book, those poor people were complaining about the cracks in the buildings supporting columns.  But these corporations and the people who run the sweatshops did not listen and built five more stories on top of it, added with all of the heavy machinery.  The Building collapsed and killed 64 workers and injured dozens and dozens of people.  This was a killing not an accident, as said in the book.  I hate to see how far people will go to stretch that extra dollar by paying the minimum amount for the manufacturing companies and not even thinking about the suffering people who have to work because there are no other jobs in their country so they will do anything to support their family.  It is just sad to see what people do for money and how far they will go to get it...

  1. Very similar tragedy happened in NYC just weeks ago, except it was a fire. Apparently the emergency exits were either blocked or inoperable. We can't expect foreign countries to regulate the workplace, but here in the US, there are certain safety standards that must be followed. These type of tragedies bring the topic of government regulation to the forefront. Should governments be responsible for enforcing safety standards like OSHA does? Or do we put the safety of workers into the hands of corporations that have stockholders to answer to?

  2. When I read the same article, and felt the same way. How can anyone disregard safety like that? Not only safety, but also disregard human life itself. I think governments do need to come up with a safety branch like OSHA. I don't know about those corporations’ big wigs but I could never have people’s deaths in my mind and not do anything about it.

  4. When I read that article I felt really sad for all this innocent people who were killed do to greed from all these big rich corporations. I understand everyone needs to make money and everyone wants a better life for themselves but It does not mean we have to step on people and act If are superior than others. If people in your company are concern for their safety than It is your responsibility to take care of your employees because there the ones who are making your life better. This article shows the importance of regulations every company should have.
